Amazing Cyclamen

Ivy-leaved cyclamen, Cyclamen
hederifolium, is a tuberous perennial that sprouts and blooms in the fall.
It is the most widespread species of the genus, native to the Mediterranean region from France to
Turkey. The gorgeous leaves are variably colored, leathery and shiny, with a
fractal pattern that closely resembles the Mandelbrot set.
Apart from C. hederifolium
there are another 4 species to be found in Greece.

Το Cyclamen hederifolium είναι ένα είδος κυκλάμινου με σκούρα
γυαλιστερά φύλλα που μοιάζουν με του κισσού. Πρόκειται για το πιο διαδεδομένο
είδος κυκλάμινου, που απαντάται αυτοφυές από την Ν. Γαλλία μέχρι και την
Τουρκία. Τα πανέμορφα φύλλα του έχουν μεγάλη ποικιλία αποχρώσεων, και φέρουν την
χαρακτηριστική απεικόνιση φράκταλ του Μάντελμπροτ.
Στην Ελλάδα εκτός από
το C. Hederifolium συναντά κανείς άλλα
4 είδη αυτού του γένους.
