Echinops microcephalus

 Echinops microcephalus.

Echinops microcephalus is a miniature globe thistle of Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, the former Yugoslavia, Romania and West Turkey. This beautiful perennial species that forms a small shrub, has grey-green leaves, short multi-branched stems and very small blue-violet flower heads. Though Echinops microcephalus flowers in late summer, it can be mistaken for Echinops ritro only due to its color.

  1. Hi. I'm growing this from seed right now. Do you know how tall it grows?

    1. Sorry for my delay.
This plant doesn't grow more than 40cm high (max 50cm). 30 to 40 is the usual hight. Good luck with your plant nursery.

  2. I run 3 homepages which combine a botanical key with pictures. My aim is to describe the Flora of Germany (www.flora-de.de), the ornamental flowers of Germany (www.zierpflanzenflora.de) and the Flora of the Alps and the Mediterranean from Greece to Portugal (www.mittelmeerflora.de). At the moment the german wildflowerwebsite describes 4500 plants with about 34000 pictures.
I like to use your pictures from Echinops microcephalus, when it is possible. If you give me your ok I would link the pictures with your name and your website.
    Best wishes
